NC Representative Larry Womble Updates

This web page has been developed in an effort to keep the community apprised regarding the medical condition of NC Rep. Larry Womble. On Friday, December 2, 2011 at approximately 11:00p.m., Representative Womble was involved in a fatal head on collision that claimed the life of David Carmichael, who was driving the other vehicle.
The family of Representative Larry Womble has, since the morning after the accident, asked the public to pray for the Carmichael family and to pray for Representative Womble’s recovery.
In an effort to streamline the process of notifying the public regarding Representative Womble’s progress and as a way to allow the public to send well wishes to Representative Womble, this site will be updated daily and those who wish to send well wishes may do so at the bottom of this page.
Current Condition and Updates
As Representative Womble's condition changes, updates will be made to this site. If there are no major changes, the post will indicate that there are “no changes and his condition remains the same as previously reported”. Due to the severity of Representative Womble’s injuries, he will have to undergo multiple surgeries. The dates/times for each procedure may change, therefore updates will be posted on this site as information from medical professionals working on behalf of Rep. Womble is made available.

Friday, February 17 - Our leader, colleague, friend and family member continues to make progress. A more detailed message from NC Representative Womble will be posted next week. Until that time, he wants to extend his appreciation to all who continue to pray for his recovery. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 - NC Representative Womble would like to extend a very heartfelt ‘thank you’ to each and every citizen of North Carolina; specifically his constituents in the 71st District. He would also like to thank the many relatives, friends and colleagues who have checked on him, sent well wishes and whispered prayers throughout what has been a very difficult ordeal. Representative Womble wants each of you to know that he is getting better each and every day and it is because of your prayers, love and positive energy that he remains with us! As Representative Womble undergoes extensive rehabilitation, we ask for your continued prayers. It has been a long road, but thank God – NC Representative Womble remains with us and he is getting stronger and stronger every day!
Sunday, February 5, 2012 - Representative Womble continues to make good progress. He is now undergoing extensive rehabilitation and therapy. We will continue to keep the public updated as changes occur with his condition. If there are no posted updates, this simply means that his condition is the same as previously reported.
Tuesday, January 24 - Representative Womble is now undergoing daily therapy. He seems to be tolerating the treatments well and his condition continues to improve. As public comments and well wishes are read, he continues to grow stronger as it has become very clear that the work he has done over the years is very much appreciated. We will continue to keep the public updated regarding his progress.
Monday, January 23 - As of 9:30AM today, Representative Womble’s condition remains the same.
The public will be notified as additional information is made available from medical professionals.
Wednesday, January 18 - Representative Womble came through surgery yesterday and tolerated the procedure just fine. As of 12:30PM today he is resting and his vital signs are stable.
Tuesday, January 17 - Representative Womble is scheduled to undergo surgery today. He is in good spirits and continues to make progress. We will update the public as additional information is made available. Please continue to keep Rep. Womble in your prayers.
Friday, January 13 - As of 9:00AM Representative Womble’s condition remains as previously reported. The next update will be on Monday, January 16 unless something changes. Thank you again for your continued prayers and words of encouragement.
Wednesday, January 11 - As of 12PM Representative Womble’s condition remains as previously reported.
Tuesday, January 10 - As of 8AM Representative Womble’s condition remains as previously reported.
Monday, January 9 - Representative Womble continues to make progress. While he is not communicating verbally he is very aware of his surroundings and he shares a smile when messages from the public are shared with him. Keep those words of encouragement coming! They are very much appreciated and well received.
Friday, January 6 - We are pleased to report that Representative Womble was moved to a critical care step-down unit. He continues to make progress and the family would like to thank the public for your continued prayers and words of encouragement.
Tuesday, January 3 2012 - We are pleased to report that NC Representative Larry Womble is now listed in serious condition. He remains in ICU at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center but his vital signs are stable.
As a way to celebrate the New Year, Representative Womble’s nurses decided to roll in a television to allow him to watch the news. Your prayers continue to strengthen him and the family would like to say “Thank You”. Continue to check back for updates. For those who are sending messages, we are now sharing your messages with Representative Womble. Here’s wishing everyone a very Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Friday, December 30 - The medical professionals are reporting Representative Womble’s condition as critical, however his vitals are stable. He is tolerating all treatments very well and the family wants to thank everyone for the continued prayers and support.
Wednesday, December 28 - Representative Womble’s condition remains as previously reported – critical but his vital signs are stable.
Monday, December 26 - At 6:00 PM there will be a special tribute to Rep. Larry Womble at Winston-Salem Urban League. Each year Representative Womble participates in the week long celebration. Kwanzaa is traditionally celebrated from December 26 through January 1, with each day focused on Nguzo Saba, or the seven principles. Derived from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanza" which means "first fruits", Kwanzaa is rooted in the first harvest celebrations practiced in various cultures in Africa. Kwanzaa seeks to enforce a connectedness to African cultural identity, provide a focal point for the gathering of African peoples, and to reflect upon the Nguzo Saba, or the seven principles, that have sustained Africans.
Umoja (OO-MO-JAH) Unity stresses the importance of togetherness for the family and the community. It is only fitting that on the day the community celebrates Unity, it also honors NC Representative Larry Womble.
On behalf of NC Representative Larry Womble, the family would like to thank those who will participate in Kwanzaa and encourages everyone to identify and participate in a Kwanzaa celebration in your community.

Friday, December 23 - Representative Womble’s condition is listed as critical today. His temperature was running high, which is one of the things that has resulted in this status change. However, his vitals remain stable and he continues to respond to stimuli, voices and commands. We will continue to keep the public updated regarding his progress. The family wants to remind everyone to be safe during the holidays.
Thursday, December 22 - Representative Womble continues to make progress. Everything remains as previously reported. The medical professionals and his family have noticed that he is managing to muster up that smile that everyone has grown accustomed to over the years. He is now responding to certain commands. The family asks for your continued prayers and would like to remind the public that as the holidays are upon us, do not forget to remember a family in need.
Wednesday, December 21 - We are pleased to report that NC Representative Womble has been changed from critical to serious condition. As of 3:45PM today Representative Womble was alert and responsive. While he cannot yet speak, his condition has improved. The family wants to thank the public for your continued prayers, support and well wishes.
.Tuesday, December 20 - Representative Womble’s condition remains as previously reported, however he is more responsive to stimuli. The long term consequences of injuries sustained remain unknown at this time.The family asks that the public remember a family in need during this week of giving.
Monday, December 19 - Representative Womble’s condition remains as previously reported. In honor of Representative Womble, the family is reminding everyone to do something for a family in need this week.
Each year Representative Womble supports a needy family during the Christmas holiday. As you pray for his healing, go out and do something for someone else, no matter how small. This can be your way of showing support for NC Representative Womble.
Sunday, December 18 - Representative Womble’s condition remains as critical, but the team of medical professionals are reporting that his vital signs are stable as of 8:15p.m. Sunday.
We will continue to keep the public updated regarding his condition.

The medical professionals continue to work to keep his vital signs stable. Any major changes will be noted on this site. Don’t forget to do a good deed this weekend in honor of Representative Womble.
Thu Dec. 15 - Rep. Womble's condition remains as previously reported. We will continue to keep the public updated. On tomorrow Representative Womble would typically be visiting seniors in the community. In honor of his contributions over the years, the Womble family encourages everyone to take a few moments this weekend to visit with a senior citizen or stop by a long term care facility to visit residents. Be sure to give well wishes from Representative Womble and the Womble family.
Wednesday, Dec. 14. - Representative Womble did undergo surgery on Tuesday, Dec. 13. He remains in critical condition and his vital signs are stable. He is expected to have additional surgeries in the coming days.
Monday December 12 - Representative Womble’s condition remains as previously reported. He is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow morning. It is anticipated that the surgery will last throughout the day, therefore updates will not be posted until after he has come out of surgery
